This is an intriguing story about a group of peaceful red squirrels who find themselves invaded by stronger, more technologically advanced grey squirrels. Unable to fight back against a foe so much stronger than themselves, the small red squirrels must instead use their wits and cunning to fight back.
This young adult novel has some heavy themes within its pages: colonization, war, internment camps, torture, racism and attempted brainwashing of youth; it is all however handled in a way that helps young adults understand the concepts and learn from them through the story-telling.
I started this book and read it through without stopping. I found it kept my attention throughout and was easy to understand. The story has a conclusion, so you won't feel left hanging, but the end does set itself up for a continuation.
